Happy New Years!

A couple of Spanish phrases I picked up for Daniel at Panqui: "Santiasco" ("asco" is to feel sick, nausea) and "queso suiza" (Swiss cheese) referring to a brain with many holes in it.  Not exactly useful phrases, but I'm sure I'll find a use for them somewhere.

I left my jacket at the Termas, which meant we couldn't ride to Villarica yesterday.  One more day in Pucòn, only our budget would mind!  Anyhow we spent most of it drying gear and drinking beer.  In the evening, we met up with Sylvia who works at the Panqui office in Pucòn for a few more beers.  Then she showed us the Pucòn nightlife which doesn't get going until 12:30 am.  About 4am, give or take, I was seeing double and could hardly get off my bar stool.  Tony, ever the gentleman, thinks it best to walk Sylvia home.  Home is 5 km out of town.

By the time we got there, I'd fallen over twice -- once while trying to ride by bike at a walking pace (not as easy as it sounds) and once while just standing there.  We crashed (pun intended) at her place, with its ridiculously low ceiling beams which I cracked my head on in the morning.  Incredible hangovers caused us to change plans slightly.  Rather than ride around the volcano on gravel roads, we took a short day and came here on paved roads.  Looks like we have about 200 km to Valdivia and we're going to try and make it there for New Year's Eve.  Ought to be an interesting couple of days since we've not exactly been disciplined about our mileage.  We'll see.

A quick bike note: during our time at Panqui, I dropped the bags on my front rack down a bit.  I'm also considering strapping my tripod to my front rack in an effort to better distribute weight.  Hopefully it won't mess with my steering.

Short entry today -- it's time for bed.
